Police Call On Residents To Host Block Parties

An annual crime prevention and neighborhood awareness event is coming up next week, and Bellaire police are calling for residents to host block parties and register them to get visits from officers.

Scheduled for Oct. 6, National Night Out is an annual, nation-wide event that seeks to stimulate neighbors to get to know each other and work with police to fight crime.

“When neighbors know each other, they instinctively tend to keep an eye out for each other and notify the Police when something just doesn’t look right,” according to a statement.

The Bellaire Police Department set the theme for this year’s event as “car burglary prevention.” Officers will visit block parties around the city and answer questions about preventing car burglaries and also identity theft.

Any resident wanting to host an event can contact the Community Resource Officer Tim Quimby at (713) 662-8103 or tquimby@bellairepolice.com. He will provide flyers for neighbors and assign police officers to attend the event.
