Four students from Bellaire High School were named as semifinalists in the 2010 National Achievement Scholarship Program.

Bellaire students Christina Griffin, Anthony Landry, Ngozi Lawanson and Alithea McFarlane are semifinalists in the National Achievement Scholarship Program.

Christina Griffin, Anthony Landry, Ngozi Lawanson and Alithea McFarlane are among 1,600 African-American high school seniors nationwide who are now eligible to compete for 800 scholarships worth more than $2.6 million.

Sixteen total students in the Houston area were also chosen, which includes four students from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts were also chosen: Allynn Delaney, Leslie Thibodeaux, Katherine Thomas and Phillip Young.

More than 160,000 high school juniors from across the country were considered in the 2010 National Achievement Scholarship Program when they took the 2008 PSAT. Semifinalists were designated within geographic regions and are the highest-scoring program entrants in the states that make up each region.

The National Achievement Scholarship Program will award two types of scholarships. The first type is a one-time $2,500 scholarship, which will be awarded to 700 students. The second type is a 4-year renewable scholarship, and will be awarded to 100 students.

Scholarship winners will be announced in April 2010.
