City Hall Drying Out After Roof Leaked

A few damaged ceiling panels are testament to the power of an Oct. 9 downpour that leaked into the City Council chambers in City Hall.

A drain on the roof clogged up and water overflowed, causing rain to leak into the council chambers. Staff members battled the deluge with buckets and trash cans, which probably stopped worse damage from occurring, said City Manager Bernie Satterwhite.

The damage forced the council to move a public hearing scheduled for Oct. 12 to another room at city hall. The clogged drain is working again, and damaged sheet rock and ceiling panels will be replaced soon.

“All in all, the damage wasn’t too bad,” Satterwhite said.
