Place 1 Candidate Wants Facility Improvements

The third question in InstantnewsBellaire’s Q&A series with Bellaire City Council candidates deals with improvements to city services.

We asked candidates:

What area of city service do you believe needs most improvement and what steps would you initiate to make those improvements?

Here are the answers from the unopposed candidate for Place 1 on the council. Scroll to the bottom for information on the procedures of this Q&A.

I am generally happy with all the City Departments and the services they provide.

The areas of improvement that I am working on are City facilities to adequately house those departments.  First on the list is the new fire station, which is under contract and being designed and constructed right now.  Other areas in need of improvement are the police station which is expanding to take over the courts space, and the relocation of courts to another facility.  Council has not yet decided on a new facility for courts; for now, the option that makes the most sense to me is locating courts in leased space in an existing building in Bellaire.  The library is also undergoing minor renovations that have already been planned and budgeted.

Other than that, I would like to hold off on any other facilities improvements or reconstruction given the current economic environment.

Yours,
Will Hickman
