A Bellaire police officer this week arrested a man who may have been involved in previous car burglaries.
The officer pulled a vehicle over on Dec. 6 for traffic violations, and found that the driver had a warrant in Houston. Police searched the vehicle and found three GPS units.
When the officer found one owner’s address programmed into one of the GPS units, he made contact with the owner and learned that the GPS had been stolen in a car burglary three days before.
Another officer recovered stolen property several days before in the 5400 block of Patrick Henry Street. A resident called police because he found a backpack at the end of his driveway. The officer found an address in the backpack and returned it to the owner, who said it had been stolen out of her vehicle.
A Bellaire resident on Nov. 29 took matters into his own hands to track down a suspect who had thrown an item at his moving vehicle. The victim called police and followed the suspect, leading officers to the scene.
Two women in Bellaire found themselves the victims of theft while shopping at separate grocery stores recently. In the first case on Nov. 27, a woman reported that her purse was stolen while she was at Randalls in the 5100 block of Bellaire Boulevard. In the second case, the victim was shopping at HEB in the 5100 block of Cedar Street when someone stole her wallet out of her purse.
Police are investigating a home burglary that happened Dec. 2 in the 900 block of Wildwood. A resident called police to report that someone broke into his home and stole a laptop computer.
Two cars were burglarized during the week of Nov. 30 to Dec. 7.
- On Dec. 1 in the 4600 block of Bellaire Boulevard, a resident reported that someone burglarized her vehicle overnight and stole a purse from the back seat area.
- On Dec. 2, a suspect broke the window of a vehicle in the 4900 block of Laurel Street and stole the victim’s purse.
A number of minor thefts were reported last week.
- On Nov. 29 a resident in the 4500 block of Acacia Street reported that one tire was missing from his pickup truck.
- On Dec. 3 police responded to an attempted theft of car wheels in the 5200 block of Huisache Street.
- A resident visited the Bellaire Police Department on Dec. 4 to report that someone had stolen a tote bag carrying his possessions from his front porch. The theft occurred in the 4400 block of Vivian Street.
- On Dec. 2 in the 4900 block of Linden Street, a resident reported that someone stole an iPod from inside home.
