Police Locate Possible Stolen Vehicle

Bellaire police last week recovered a vehicle that had been stolen in another area, but the driver said he had bought the car online.

An officer on Dec. 19 noticed a van that had a station wagon’s license plate. When he checked the identification number the vehicle came back stolen. The driver said he had purchased the van online, and the Harris County District Attorney’s office is investigating the matter before deciding whether to file charges.

Theft

A business in Bellaire sustained a major loss to theft on Dec. 15. Police responded to Foundation Ancillary Services Affiliate in the 5400 block of West Loop South because an employee reported that a piece of monitoring equipment had been stolen. The theft was valued between $20,000 to $100,000. Police are investigating the incident.

On Dec. 15, someone called police to report that someone had stolen a brand new air conditioning unit from the side of a home that is under construction. The theft was valued between $500 to $1,500.

Two residents reported that someone had stolen guns from their homes last week. On Dec. 15 a resident told police that a handgun was missing from the home. On Dec. 18, a resident reported someone had stolen a shotgun from the home.

Police responded to a car burglary on Dec. 18. Someone had broken into a woman’s car in the 4600 block of Bellaire Boulevard and stolen her purse.

Drunk Driving

Police arrested two people for driving while intoxicated last week. On Dec. 12, an officer saw a vehicle that was speeding and swerving between lanes. When the officer stopped the car he saw the driver was drunk and arrested the person. On Dec. 19, an officer pulled over a car for driving the wrong way on Bissonnet Street. The officer arrested the driver for driving while intoxicated.

Identity Theft

Two residents reported to police that they were the victims of identity theft. On Dec. 16, a resident said someone had opened a credit card under her name without her permission. On Dec. 19, a resident visited the police station to report that someone passed a fraudulent check using the victim’s checking account number.

Vandalism

On Dec. 17, police responded to  the 5300 block of Bissonnet Street because someone had spray painted graffiti on the rear brick wall of the property. The damage was estimated to be between $500 to $1,500.
