Mayor Cindy Siegel prepares to give a statement for television cameras about her opposition to the stadium.

Camera crews from Houston’s major TV news stations visited Bellaire City Hall this afternoon to talk with Mayor Cindy Siegel about her opposition to the idea of a Houston Dynamo Stadium being constructed on Bellaire’s border at South Rice Avenue and Westpark Drive. Read more about Siegel’s opposition here.

The mayor reiterated her main points — she thinks a stadium would bring too much traffic and harm Bellaire residents’ quality of life. Siegel admitted that she’s not sure how much the Bellaire City Council can do to influence the development, considering the proposed site is within the Houston city limits.

She will discuss the matter with other council members at an executive session meeting on Monday.

Like I said before, she should have waited and showed her cards later after the companies had paid for traffic, water/wastewater feasibly studies. All those could have been integrated into the City’s master plans (even though its not within the city i know) for next to nothing. Free engineering is always good in my book. Knee-jerk reactions never get us anywhere.
