Crime Reports, News

An unusually high number of cars were stolen in Bellaire last week, but police have recovered two of the vehicles and they also found another car that was stolen in Houston.

Police tracked down and arrested three suspects who had loaded guns while they drove around in a stolen vehicle. On Jan. 29 around 12:30 a.m., a Bellaire officer responded to a report of a car alarm. The victim said he heard his car alarm and saw his vehicle leave the area in the 4600 block of Pin Oak Lane.

The officer tracked down the suspects in the 4600 block of Abercrombe Place and pulled over the car. Inside, the officer found a woman’s purse and an iPod that belonged to the victim’s daughter. During the investigation, the officer also found the two loaded guns. Police arrested Kenneth Jolivet, 18, Donavon Barnes-Wyches, 18, and an unnamed 16-year-old suspect.

In another case on Jan. 26, a man called police around 9 p.m. to report that his Chevrolet Suburban was missing from the 6500 block of West Loop South. Officers recovered the vehicle the next day in the 8700 block of Schumacher Lane.

Bellaire police found a third vehicle last week that had been reported stolen in Houston. An officer saw the vehicle on Jan. 27 parked in the 6300 block of Meredith Drive, ran the registration number and found that it was a stolen car. There was also a stolen license plate inside the car.

Three other auto thefts happened during the week of Jan. 25 to Feb. 1.

  • On Jan. 26, police responded to an auto theft around 8 p.m. in the 5100 block of Beech Street. Upon investigating, officers found that another car at the same address had been burglarized. Police think that the same suspect committed both crimes.
  • On Jan. 27, a resident called police to the 5300 block of Valerie Street because she went outside around 8:20 a.m. and found that her vehicle wasn’t there.
  • On Jan. 29, officers responded to the 6300 block of West Loop South around 4 p.m. because a victim said someone had stolen her car.
