Thirty-nine students at Bellaire High School recently learned they’ve advanced as Finalists for National Merit Scholarships. The students will learn later in the spring if they’ve been awarded 2010 scholarships.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation is a nonprofit that has offered the scholarships since 1955. The nonprofit will choose winners based on their academic records, test scores, written recommendations from their schools, the students’ activities, and the students’ own essays.

Students can receive one-time awards of $2,500, or they can win renewable four-year scholarships from corporations or colleges.

The Finalists from Bellaire High School are: Celina Aldape, Shayna Berkowitz, Joshua Chang, Karen Ding, George Fan, Shuo Feng, Liang Gu, Tiffany Huang, Kara Ing, Katherine Kabotyanski, Lumeng Li, Scott Lin, Henry Lu, Louise Lu, David Mao, Ian Mauzy, Georgia McLendon, Jimmy Moon, Erik Nelson, Mengwei Ni, Joseph Ong, Cassie Pan, Wilma Qiu, Joshua Rozner, Leonardo Setyanto, Rhiana Smith, Evan Srnka, Sharon Sun, Zhuyi Sun, Edgar Walters, Caroline Weisman, Dennis Wu, Ann Zhu, and Zhida Zhu.
