The Bellaire City Council will be discussing their five main goals for 2010-2011 at their 6 p.m. meeting on Monday.
The five focus areas for the 2010-2011 fiscal year are: residential/commercial safety; public infrastructure and facilities; cultural and recreational; communications and technology; and budget and finance.
Some of the residential/commercial safety focus areas are to have a greater police presence throughout Bellaire, eliminate billboards near the east side railroad tracks and consider changing speed limits in heavy traffic areas.
The council will also discuss the addition of sidewalks in Bellaire and across the east side railroad tracks running into West University Place, among other things.
Some of the ways the council plans to maintain high standards of public infrastructure and facilities is to close the Debbie Marshall Recycling Center, prioritize drainage projects and purchase flood damaged homes.
The city council plans on developing a long-term plan for the use of the Teas property on Bellaire Blvd; they want to ensure the preservation of the home.
During 2010-2011, the council plans on redeveloping a portion of Paseo Park and repair fences around the rear of Loftin Park.
The council plans on improving communication throughout Bellaire by video streaming council and board meetings and to enhance the city’s presence on TV, among other things.
This year the council plans on preserving the financial condition of the city and optimizing the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
The city council meeting is at 6 p.m. Monday in the Council Chamber, first floor of City Hall, 7008 South Rice Ave.
