The Bellaire City Council met Monday night to discuss changes to their goals and objectives for 2010-2011.
The council had previously met in a workshop session on Feb. 19 and Feb. 20 to discuss their goals and objectives and then made amendments to their objectives in their April 12 special meeting.
The council is going to focus on six areas during the 2010-2011 fiscal year. Their areas of focus are residential/commercial safety, public infrastructure and facilities, cultural and recreational, communications and technology, budget and finance and their comprehensive plan.
Some objectives that were added to their 2010-2011 goals and objectives during the meeting are to review existing ordinances and development of policies regulating institutional land uses for residential neighborhoods and to prioritize institutional residential compatibility in the implementation of the comprehensive plan.
The council plans on analyzing possible means of reducing negative impacts of the water treatment plan on surrounding areas and to investigate options for water sources and cost for the city of Bellaire.
The council is coming up with a plan to close the Debbie Marshall Recycling Center and they are still discussing what they are going to do with the property once the recycling center is closed.
The council plans on developing a plan for the use of the Teas property on Bellaire Blvd. and to develop a program to improve the image and branding of Bellaire.
The council also discussed ways of enhancing the city’s presence on TV, Internet and radio.
Other things the council discussed was implementing a carefully thought out, conservative optimized and fiscally responsible budget.
The city council plans on getting input from the public and having a final vote on their goals and objectives in May.
