Alder Park Subdivision May Be Approved During Tonight’s Council Meeting

During its Monday night meeting, Bellaire City Council may approve an ordinance for a new subdivision to be built in the 5700 block of Bissonnet.

5177 Builders, Ltd. (dba Lovett Homes) has submitted an application and request to build a planned development called Alder Park at 5711 Bissonnet St.

The proposed subdivision would be built on a 1.68 acre parcel of property between Bissonnet Street and Whitehaven Street and would house 13 single families. The property is in an R-M.3 mixed use district.

Council heard from Lovett Homes during a public hearing held July 19.

Some of the concerns for the subdivision included a lack of trees behind the homes and lighting along the street, to be called Alder Drive.

Lovett Homes has agreed to plant at least two trees behind the homes on the south side of the development.

A condition has been added to the ordinance requiring two street lights to be put in on the proposed street.

The Planning and Zoning Commission approved unanimously the request for the planned development during its June 8 meeting. The commission has recommended to council to approve the request.

Council will discuss the proposed ordinance during tonight’s meeting at 7 p.m. in the council chambers, 7008 S. Rice Ave.
