Episcopal High School Gets Council’s Approval For Specific Use Permit Changes

Bellaire City Council unanimously approved the changes to Episcopal High School’s specific use permit, during its regular meeting last night.

Jackson & Ryan Architects submitted an application on behalf of EHS to change the size, shape and placement of the parking complex, academic center (academic building) and fine arts center.

Council heard positive feedback from the community during a public hearing held July 19. The Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved Episcopal High School’s amendment request on June 8.

Councilmember Mandy Nathan thanked the representatives from EHS for holding a neighborhood meeting about the changes and for answering their questions.

“I will be in favor of this,” she said.

One of the changes to Episcopal High School includes elongating the planned parking garage to a 4-story garage.

Currently, there is space for 512 cars to park at the high school and the changes will accommodate 724 cars.

The fine arts building will be revised and the layout of the academic building will be simplified.

EHS needed council’s approval before they could go start on the changes to the school.

“Good job Episcopal,” Mayor Cindy Siegel said. “Thank you for working with the neighbors on it.”
