Also, I hope Council members Corbett Parker, Andrew Friedberg and Mandy Nathan don’t push for another park as a way to make better use of the area now used by the Recycling Center. We can’t afford to develop, manage, and maintain the parks we already have or are soon to be gifted with. I would suggest a better use might be to subdivide the property into lots and sell the lots off to those who will pay property taxes on them.

The last time these people came before council Dr.Nauret made the motion, and council approved, to “give them anything they want.” The city cannot, then or now, afford to give anything of value away.

Patrons could help by raising money to help with operations rather than putting the city further behind by adding more parks and park expenses.

Restraint and moderation are qualities not associated with Bellaire.

I only went to one Recycling Committee meeting, and they didn’t talk about it there. But I don’t know about conversations at other meetings, so I can’t really answer your question.

Hopefully people with the committee will read the story and they’ll be able to answer you in this forum. If that doesn’t happen, I’ll make sure to ask about this the next time this story comes up. The next thing to happen is the city council will consider the committee’s recommendation.

What if this project brings in money for transportation infrastructure? If she was smart she would let it continue and let these these private companies pay for feasibility studies including traffic and engineering. That way she would have her evidence plus a free study which if done by the City would take years or cost a ton. But no, she is costing Bellaire because of her knee-jerk reaction.

Someone with push forward and welcome this stadium into their community and that community will be laughing all the way to the bank 5-10 years from now. They will be glad they took a slight risk on a great deal while everyone else sat on their hands. In 5-10 years the original proposed site east of downtown will still be a dump and those in the area wish they would have taken the deal for a private entity to pump $60 million into it. But no, El Franco Lee turn it down because, although great for his constituents, their was nothing in it politically for him.

I’ve lived in many major cities in the US and this is the first one in which I’ve enjoyed the close proximity of many major entertainment venues to major roads that are easily navigable. NY had the subway to Madison Square Garden and Chicago had the L train to Wrigley Field, but other venues were more difficult to get to/from in those cities. We should welcome another “neighborhood” stadium and encourage smart planning that can enhance our quality of life. Just visit Wrigley Field to see the significant positive impact it has had on the surrounding area (and they play games 81 times a year).
