We, your faithful readers, look forward to your reports, hopefully daily, about the trial.
Of particular interest will be the answer to an obvious question: Why wasn't Robbie in handcuffs? Another case we would like an update on is the case of Mr. Johnson, who was mangled in a garbage truck accident.

Keep up the good work of keeping us informed, and thanks.

I will take Councilman Phil Nauert at his word and wait to see how he intends to "keep the name of Debbie Marshall in the public sphere.”

Also, I hope Council members Corbett Parker, Andrew Friedberg and Mandy Nathan don't push for another park as a way to make better use of the area now used by the Recycling Center. We can't afford to develop, manage, and maintain the parks we already have or are soon to be gifted with. I would suggest a better use might be to subdivide the property into lots and sell the lots off to those who will pay property taxes on them.

The Adventure Guides program at the Weekley YMCA is a very well run program, and provides great activities that foster parent/child interaction. In particular, it's a terrific program for Dads and Daughters.

CAUTION...CAUTION...CAUTION

The last time these people came before council Dr.Nauret made the motion, and council approved, to "give them anything they want." The city cannot, then or now, afford to give anything of value away.

Very nice and thorough article. Thank you for educating all of us about this proposed expansion and for even providing links to site plans. Keep working hard informing Bellaire residents.

It is a commonplace that Bellaire has more government than budget.
The Parks Department cannot properly operate and maintain the parks that it now has.

Patrons could help by raising money to help with operations rather than putting the city further behind by adding more parks and park expenses.

Restraint and moderation are qualities not associated with Bellaire.

Hi Elaine,

I only went to one Recycling Committee meeting, and they didn't talk about it there. But I don't know about conversations at other meetings, so I can't really answer your question.

Hopefully people with the committee will read the story and they'll be able to answer you in this forum. If that doesn't happen, I'll make sure to ask about this the next time this story comes up. The next thing to happen is the city council will consider the committee's recommendation.

Thanks for your comment,
Angela

I lived next door to Debbie Marshall for more than 10 years. One of the first neighborhood meetings to whip up interest in our area was held in my yard. The Recycling Center bears her name, because she was on the forefront of recycling in Bellaire. I am concerned that Debbie Marshall's efforts toward bringing recycling to our area will be forgotten with the demise of the Recycling Center. Does the Recycling Committee and/or Bellaire City Council have any plans to memorialize Debbie Marshall as the moving force in bringing recycling to Bellaire?

Do people ever think or analyze things for themselves today? Or do we just see something on TV and have a knee-jerk reaction?

Lynn McBee couldn't be more right. Lets let this play itself and see their proposals before we shoot it down.

Like I said before, she should have waited and showed her cards later after the companies had paid for traffic, water/wastewater feasibly studies. All those could have been integrated into the City's master plans (even though its not within the city i know) for next to nothing. Free engineering is always good in my book. Knee-jerk reactions never get us anywhere.

"I just think it will hurt Bellaire and I don’t think it will be good for fans"
The key word here is 'think'. She 'just thinks' it will hurt us in Bellaire. I personally believe someone running my community and making claims against something should base these claims off something more than just thoughts, even if those thoughts are shared by many people. I know if I was the CEO of my company I wouldn't spout off my unless I 'knew' not just 'think'.

What if this project brings in money for transportation infrastructure? If she was smart she would let it continue and let these these private companies pay for feasibility studies including traffic and engineering. That way she would have her evidence plus a free study which if done by the City would take years or cost a ton. But no, she is costing Bellaire because of her knee-jerk reaction.

We live in Houston, there's going to be traffic; deal with it.

Someone with push forward and welcome this stadium into their community and that community will be laughing all the way to the bank 5-10 years from now. They will be glad they took a slight risk on a great deal while everyone else sat on their hands. In 5-10 years the original proposed site east of downtown will still be a dump and those in the area wish they would have taken the deal for a private entity to pump $60 million into it. But no, El Franco Lee turn it down because, although great for his constituents, their was nothing in it politically for him.

I work right next door to Lakewood Church and while the volume of traffic in/out of there can be annoying at times, it never creates a significant problem for those who wish to pass through the area. Good turn lane design and assistance from traffic personnel (I hope the church is paying for that!) ensures excellent flow. Just do good planning up front and the Dynamos stadium should have minimal impact (20x/ year--big deal!) as well.

I've lived in many major cities in the US and this is the first one in which I've enjoyed the close proximity of many major entertainment venues to major roads that are easily navigable. NY had the subway to Madison Square Garden and Chicago had the L train to Wrigley Field, but other venues were more difficult to get to/from in those cities. We should welcome another "neighborhood" stadium and encourage smart planning that can enhance our quality of life. Just visit Wrigley Field to see the significant positive impact it has had on the surrounding area (and they play games 81 times a year).
